December 2018: EU announces TAC and Quota for 2019

After very intense negotiations, the Council reached agreement on 2019 catch limits for the main commercial fish stocks in the area. The agreement is based on a strong commitment to the objectives of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP): environmental, economic and social sustainability.

The Commission have announced that there will be a 7 month one fish per day bag limit for recreational fishing of bass. However, it is not known at this time if the 7 months will start in January.

The recommendations from the commission do not become law until they are published in the Official Journal  as such on the first of January 2019 the recreational fishery will return to a catch and release only fishery. This may change with the publciation of the Offical Journal.
